Setting Up and Building a Screen Business

Screen Producers Australia in partnership with Screen Queensland and AFTRS is presenting the national Business Essentials full day workshop in Brisbane on Thursday, 28 September. The course will feature special guest speaker Veronica Fury, Principal and Executive Producer at WildBear Entertainment. Veronica will discuss the facts of producing life in a Q&A session with SPA's Owen Johnston. Additional speakers include Screen Producers Australia’s Owen Johnston and Mark Donaldson who will share their extensive legal and industrial policy expertise.

The Business Essentials program covers the commercial framework in which producers must operate. The course is designed to provide you with the essential information to start, develop and grow a film and television business and is vital for start ups while also serving as a refresher for established businesses.

Veronica Fury is a Principal and Executive Producer at WildBear Entertainment. Veronica is an AACTA and ATOM award-winning producer with over 60 hours of screen credits both here and abroad. Fury has produced TV for ABC, SBS, Nat Geo, Discovery, ZDF/Arte, TG4 and Arte France to name a few. Her recent television successes include Big Art (Sky Vision, 2015), Snake Boss (Animal Planet, 2015), Baby Animals In The Wild (DRG, 2015), and Shadow Trackers (NITV, 2016) Veronica Fury also has a broad feature documentary slate, including Electric Boogaloo which she co-produced with RatPac Documentary Films in 2014, and Ella (Ronin Films, 2016). Veronica is currently producing a broad range of factual television series and feature documentary productions.

Owen Johnston has worked for Screen Producers Australia for over a decade in both policy and industrial relations. Owen has produced feature films, documentaries, television drama, and commercials and is a former Director of Film Development and Marketing at the Australian Film Commission.

Mark Donaldson is our Manager, Business & Legal Affairs. Mark provides legal and research support, and assists in the development of policy campaigns and the negotiation of industrial and commercial agreements.
