As the much-celebrated production company, Aquarius Films, draws to a close, Screen Producers Australia (SPA) congratulates the company’s founders on 18 inspiring years of creativity, vision, and leadership in the Australian screen industry.
Founded by Angie Fielder and Polly Staniford, Aquarius has been a powerhouse within the Australian screen sector. In addition to being internationally acclaimed, the pair’s productions have won multiple SPA Awards, AACTA Awards, and Logies, and have been a dominating presence within the SPA membership.
From their early short films to internationally acclaimed features such as Lion, Wish You Were Here, Berlin Syndrome, and Dirt Music, through to acclaimed television series including Love Me (Binge), Savage River (ABC), The Unlisted (ABC, Netflix), The Unusual Suspects (SBS), and most recently Mix Tape (Binge), their work together and across such a broad range of partners to create this body of work has made an indelible contribution to Australian storytelling.
“Aquarius Films has been a shining example of what independent Australian producers can achieve both here and on the world stage. Angie and Polly have created stories that not only entertain but also deeply move audiences, proving that Australian content can resonate globally. Their legacy is one of bold, creative choices, unwavering commitment to quality, and the ability to develop productions with an impressive range of commissioners,” said SPA CEO Matthew Deaner.
“Angie and Polly consistently and deeply engaged with SPA, mentoring across multiple Ones To Watch cohorts, participating in industry webinars, supporting advocacy efforts, and contributing to SCREEN FOREVER programs. In so doing, they inspire and support countless colleagues and pave the way for future generations of storytellers through their work and successes. We celebrate what they have achieved together and look forward to supporting the next evolution in the careers of these incredible producers, "said Mr Deaner.
