Screen Producers Australia (SPA) welcomes the Attorney-General’s decision to rule out a text and data mining exemption for artificial intelligence training.
SPA CEO Matthew Deaner said "This is an important affirmation that Australia’s copyright framework must continue to reward the creation of original works and ensure fair market access for their use. Allowing technology companies to mine screen and other creative content without permission or payment would have undermined the foundations of Australia’s creative economy."
SPA supports the Government’s commitment to consult further on licensing frameworks that enable innovation while ensuring that Australian creatives share in the value their works generate.
